DORSET Council says it is currently unlikely to immediately join in a national parking app' scheme. The system allows user to take advantage
Dorset Council has indicated it is unlikely to join the Government-backed National Parking Platform (NPP) in the immediate future. The scheme is designed to simplify parking by allowing motorists to use a single app across multiple locations, removing the need to download and register with several different parking providers. The National Parking Platform brings together leading parking operators and apps, enabling drivers to pay using their preferred service across participating council car parks. A spokesperson for Dorset Council said the authority is continuing to monitor the initiative as it develops: > “This is something we are monitoring closely to ensure it represents the right step for both the council and users of our car parks. > We remain committed to offering a range of payment options, including machines that accept cash, card, as well as Apple and Android payments. > We will continue to review advancements in parking technology to ensure we provide the best solution for Dorset.” The NPP describes itself as a not-for-profit initiative aimed at eliminating the need for multiple parking apps. It operates as an open platform, connecting various providers so motorists can use services such as RingGo, JustPark or PayByPhone across different council-run car parks. By linking existing apps and parking operators, the platform ensures a driver’s preferred app works seamlessly across participating locations. Following successful trials in around 10 to 15 areas, the scheme is now being rolled out across England, with councils encouraged to join in order to reduce confusion caused by multiple parking apps. Apps currently compatible with the National Parking Platform include RingGo, JustPark, PayByPhone and the NCP app. The initiative is overseen by the British Parking Association (BPA), in collaboration with local authorities and service providers.
