31 August 2026
Bexley Council is offering free parking in council-operated car parks, on-street paid-for bays and permit bays on the 2026 bank holidays. However, normal Monday parking and moving traffic restrictions continue to apply, so drivers still need to follow signs and other restrictions.
Bexley Bank Holiday Parking: Free Bays but Normal Restrictions Apply Drivers in Bexley can park free of charge in council-operated car parks and selected on-street parking bays during the 2026 bank holidays, but normal parking and moving traffic restrictions will continue to apply. For the Summer Bank Holiday on Monday 31 August 2026, Bexley Council says normal Monday parking and moving traffic restrictions will remain in force. However, on-street paid-for parking bays will be free on the day, while on-street permit bays will also be free. Council-operated car parks will likewise be free on the Summer Bank Holiday, meaning motorists will not need to pay the usual parking charge at these locations. The same arrangements apply to Bexley's other 2026 bank holidays listed by the council, including the Early May Bank Holiday on 4 May and the Spring Bank Holiday on 25 May. This means drivers should not assume that free parking means every restriction has been suspended. The council specifically states that all other parking terms and conditions continue to apply. The arrangements cover parking charges and permit requirements, while parking and moving traffic restrictions remain subject to the normal Monday rules on the Summer Bank Holiday. Drivers visiting Bexley should therefore continue to check signs and restrictions before leaving their vehicle, even when parking is free. The council also provides mobile parking payment through RingGo and pay-and-display machines at most locations, although payment is not required in the relevant bays on the listed bank holidays. For anyone planning a bank holiday trip to Bexley, the main benefit is the removal of parking charges in council car parks and the specified on-street paid-for and permit bays. The important point for motorists is that free parking does not override existing parking and traffic restrictions. With the Summer Bank Holiday falling on 31 August 2026, drivers can take advantage of free parking in eligible Bexley locations while still following the normal restrictions that apply on Monday
