Bridgend Parking Ticket Machines to Be Upgraded at Five Car Parks Parking ticket machines at five council-operated car parks across Bridgend County Borough are set to be upgraded from September, with work beginning in Bridgend before moving to Porthcawl and Rest Bay. The improvements are designed to make the machines easier to use and more accessible for residents and visitors using the council’s car parks. Work will initially take place at three Bridgend car parks on 15 September, before moving to Porthcawl and Rest Bay from 22 September. Each location is expected to take around two to three days to complete. Parking Machines to Meet Accessibility Requirements The upgraded machines will be positioned at accessible locations and heights within the car parks to meet the latest Disability Discrimination Act requirements. While major disruption is not expected, some parking machines may be temporarily unavailable while the improvement work is carried out. Motorists will still be able to pay for parking using PayByPhone during the works. Drivers can use the PayByPhone app or call the service directly to make their parking payment. The programme covers Bowls Hall, Bridgend Life Centre Pool Car Park rear car park and Tondu Road in Bridgend. It will also include Rest Bay Car Park and Hillsboro Car Park in Porthcawl. The council says the changes are intended to improve the parking experience while making its services more inclusive and accessible. Councillor Gary Haines, Cabinet Member for Communities and the Environment, said the improvements reflect the council’s commitment to ensuring its services remain accessible for residents and visitors. He also said engineers were working to minimise disruption during the works and thanked residents and visitors for their cooperation. For motorists, the main point to remember is that some ticket machines may be unavailable for short periods while work takes place. Drivers using the affected car parks should therefore be prepared to use PayByPhone if the usual machine is temporarily out of service. The upgrade programme is expected to continue through September, with each individual location taking around two to three days to complete.
