Coventry drivers warned about road closures and temporary parking changes Motorists across Coventry are being warned about a series of road closures and temporary parking changes linked to planned works in the city. Coventry City Council has approved a number of temporary traffic orders, with some restrictions already in place and others coming into force during September. Coventry road closures and parking changes Greyfriars Lane is closed between Salt Lane and High Street from Tuesday 8 September to allow Severn Trent Water to safely repair a leaking water pipe. The work is expected to finish on Thursday 10 September, while the one-way restriction on High Street between Greyfriars Lane and Hay Lane is also being suspended. Taxi parking bays along Greyfriars Lane between Salt Lane and High Street have also been suspended during the works. Britannia Street is currently closed between its junction with Paynes Lane and Grantham Street following excavation work for two high-voltage electric ducts. The Britannia Street works are expected to continue until Wednesday 16 September, meaning drivers using the area may need to allow extra time for their journeys. Lower Ford Street will close from outside Bodiam Hall to the roundabout, with a four-way temporary traffic light system on Ragland Street and Alma Street. That restriction begins on Tuesday 15 September while BT/Openreach duct blockages are cleared, with the work expected to finish on Thursday 17 September. Merynton Avenue will also be restricted from Tuesday 15 September, covering the section around the highway fronting number 32 and extending approximately 15 metres in each direction. Severn Trent Water is carrying out the work to renew a long communications pipe, with completion expected on Friday 18 September. More closures planned across Coventry Spon Street will be closed around the highway fronting number 159 from Monday 14 September to Wednesday 16 September. Wall Hill Road will then close from its junction with Hawkes Mill Lane to its junction with Hollyfast Lane from Thursday 17 September for new supply works. The Wall Hill Road works are expected to be completed by Tuesday 22 September 2026. Lake View Road will also close from its junction with Four Pounds Avenue to a point around 40 metres west of the junction from 7am on Thursday 17 September. The closure will allow Severn Trent Water to carry out a chamber rebuild and associated works, with completion expected on Monday 21 September. Whoberley Avenue will close between Billing Road and Maudslay Road on Thursday 17 September for Severn Trent works, with the restriction expected to end the same day. Alternative routes will be signposted for the works, while reasonable local access and access for emergency services will be maintained. Drivers travelling through affected areas are therefore advised to check their route before setting off and be prepared for temporary restrictions during the scheduled works.
