Motorhome Owners Could Get Two-Night Parking in Denbighshire

Denbighshire Council Considers Overnight Motorhome Parking in Car Parks Denbighshire Council is considering a new overnight parking scheme for motorhomes as the number of these vehicles has increased since the Covid-19 pandemic. The proposal would create dedicated motorhome spaces at selected car parks, giving owners somewhere to stay overnight rather than parking in unauthorised locations. Two-Night Motorhome Parking Proposed The first proposal focuses on Lower Barkby car park on Barkby Avenue in Prestatyn, where 10 existing spaces could be converted for motorhome overnight stays. Motorhomes would be allowed to stay for a maximum of two nights, with the plans also including changes to vehicle and pedestrian access around the car park. The proposed facilities would go beyond standard parking, with the scheme including a connection to the mains sewer as well as waste and recycling facilities. Foul drainage would be connected to the sewer next to the existing toilets building, according to the planning application. The site covers around half an acre, or 0.2 hectares, and forms part of a wider plan being considered by Denbighshire Council. Tackling Unauthorised Overnight Parking The council's planning report says motorhome ownership has grown across the UK since the pandemic and that Denbighshire has several locations where motorhomes have become a particular issue. Motorhomes can currently use some car parks where there are no height restrictions, but overnight stays are not permitted. The proposed “Aires” project is intended to provide an alternative for owners looking for short-term overnight parking close to towns and existing facilities. Denbighshire Council says the project is not designed to compete with holiday parks, but instead to provide basic parking for a maximum two-night stay. Six car parks have been identified as potential locations for the wider scheme, including sites in Rhyl, Prestatyn, Ruthin, Llangollen and Corwen. The locations include Quay Street Car Park and Marine Drive in Rhyl, Lower Barkby Car Park in Prestatyn, Park Road Car Park in Ruthin, Mill Street Car Park in Llangollen and Green Lane Car Park in Corwen. The Prestatyn proposal would therefore form part of a larger approach to managing motorhome parking across the county. For motorhome owners, dedicated overnight spaces could provide a clearer option when visiting Denbighshire, while the council hopes the scheme can help address overnight parking in unauthorised locations. The plans are expected to be discussed by the council's planning committee, so the proposal has not yet become a confirmed parking scheme.
