London Parking Warning as Notting Hill Carnival Road Closures Begin

Notting Hill Carnival 2026 will bring extensive road closures and parking restrictions across west London. Most parking restrictions begin at 11.59pm on Saturday 29 August, while most road closures start from 6am on Sunday 30 August and continue until 6am on Tuesday 1 September.

Notting Hill Carnival 2026: Drivers Warned Over Parking Restrictions

Notting Hill Carnival 2026: London Drivers Face Major Parking Restrictions Drivers heading towards west London are being warned about major parking restrictions and road closures during Notting Hill Carnival 2026, with most restrictions beginning on Saturday night. The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea says most parking restrictions will be in place from 11.59pm on Saturday 29 August until 6am on Tuesday 1 September. Most roads within the Carnival area will also be closed from 6am on Sunday 30 August until 6am on Tuesday 1 September, or until it is safe for them to reopen. During the road closure periods, access will be limited to pre-authorised Carnival vehicles and emergency services. Other vehicles will be refused access to the Carnival area. Residents urged to move cars before restrictions begin Residents living within the Carnival area who need to use their vehicles have been advised to move them out before the restrictions begin on Saturday 29 August. Drivers are also being urged to check for additional restrictions on roads near their homes, as these could affect their route out of the area. The council has advised motorists to leave it as late as possible before driving vehicles back into the Carnival area once the event and restrictions have ended. New Notting Hill Gate closure for 2026 There will be a new traffic restriction at Notting Hill Gate for the 2026 Carnival. A section of Notting Hill Gate will be closed to all traffic except buses on Sunday 30 August and Monday 31 August. Exact closure times will be confirmed closer to the event. Traffic affected by the closure will be diverted via Addison Road, Kensington High Street and Kensington Church Street. Roads south of Notting Hill Gate will also operate as access-only routes to help manage traffic, while parking restrictions and enforcement will be in place. More parking restrictions across west London Waiting restrictions will be enforced in Pembridge Ward and parts of Norland Ward and Campden Ward on Sunday 30 and Monday 31 August. Drivers should therefore check signs and temporary warning notices before leaving their vehicles in the area, particularly during the Carnival period when normal parking arrangements may not apply. There will also be local road closures around Kensal Road on Saturday 29 August, from 11am until midnight, to facilitate the Panorama event. The council has warned that additional restrictions may be introduced closer to Carnival, meaning drivers should check for updates before travelling. For motorists who need to travel through the affected parts of west London, planning ahead will be important. With road closures, access restrictions and parking enforcement operating across the area, normal routes and parking options may not be available. The council has also provided an interactive Carnival event map showing road closures and parking restrictions, giving drivers a way to check the affected areas before setting off. For anyone living in or travelling to the Carnival area, the safest approach is to check the latest restrictions, move vehicles before the restrictions begin where necessary, and avoid attempting to drive into closed areas.
