New South Ribble parking charges and rules now in force

South Ribble has introduced new parking charges, time limits and parking rules across almost a dozen council-owned car parks. While most of the borough's 47 parking sites remain unchanged, drivers at several locations now need to follow new free-parking periods, charges and ticket requirements.

South Ribble drivers warned as new car park charges begin

New South Ribble parking charges and rules now in force across the borough New parking charges and rules have come into force across almost a dozen council-owned car parks in South Ribble, with drivers facing new time limits and charges at several locations. South Ribble Borough Council says the changes are designed to encourage fairer and more controlled use of its car parks, while helping to fund maintenance and improvements. The changes follow a public consultation carried out by the council a year ago covering its 47 parking sites. Several parts of the original proposals were changed after feedback from residents and other users. Most council car parks in South Ribble remain unaffected. However, the new arrangements introduced from 3 September include free parking periods at the locations where changes have been made. The council previously said it was losing around £55,000 a year on maintaining its parking facilities, prompting the authority to review how its car parks are operated. At Kingsway Car Park in Bamber Bridge, drivers can park for up to two hours for free. At Withy Grove and Withy Grove Overflow, three hours are free, although drivers need a time-of-arrival ticket, while all-day parking costs £3 and a weekly ticket costs £12. Several changes have also been introduced in Leyland. Bowling Terrace offers one hour free with a time-of-arrival ticket, followed by a charge of £1 for up to three hours. Churchill Way has the same one-hour free period, with parking costing £1 for up to three hours, £3 all day or £12 for a weekly ticket. At Leyland Leisure Centre on Lancastergate, drivers can park for one hour free with a time-of-arrival ticket. Leisure users can also receive up to three hours free parking, but registration is required on arrival. Worden Park Main and Overflow car parks now offer two hours free with a time-of-arrival ticket. Parking costs £2 for up to three hours, £5 for up to five hours and £8 all day. The Worden Park Overflow car park is currently being converted into a year-round facility. The council says charges will apply there once the work is completed later this year. Worden Hall, meanwhile, is restricted to permit holders and Blue Badge holders. In Penwortham, Liverpool Road Car Park now provides one hour free parking, with charges of £1 for up to three hours and £2 for up to four hours. Ryefield Avenue Car Park offers two hours free. Drivers using Victoria Road Car Park in Walton-le-Dale can park for one hour free with a time-of-arrival ticket, followed by a £1 charge for up to three hours. At Cann Bridge Street Car Park in Higher Walton, two hours of parking are free. The council has also warned drivers that parking enforcement will be active under the new arrangements. Blue Badge holders using designated disabled bays must ensure their badge is clearly displayed to avoid penalties, while vehicles breaking the new rules may receive fines.
