University of Sussex parking warning as student arrivals bring major changes

University of Sussex drivers face limited parking and several car park closures during Arrivals Weekend from 18 to 20 September. P1 Science will close, several other car parks will have restricted availability, and staff are being directed towards alternative parking areas.

Sussex campus parking to be limited during student arrivals weekend

University of Sussex parking warning as student arrivals bring major changes Drivers heading to the University of Sussex campus this weekend are being warned of limited parking and significant changes as thousands of students arrive for the new academic year. Arrivals Weekend will run from Friday 18 to Sunday 20 September, with P7 Jubilee Multi-Storey being used as the main long-stay visitor car park for parents and guests. Parking restrictions during student arrivals Parking is expected to be particularly difficult on Friday, when the university is advising staff to work remotely wherever possible because campus parking and public transport will be heavily affected. P1 Science car park will be closed to staff, while P6 Ridge and P7a Upper Arts will have limited parking available. Staff driving to campus on Friday are advised to enter via University Way, near the Sport Centre, rather than Knights Gate Road, which will be used by student vehicles. Boiler House Hill, Refectory Road and residential areas are also expected to be very busy, with drivers advised to avoid these areas where possible. On Saturday and Sunday, staff who need to park on campus are being directed towards P3 Biology and P11 Knights Gate car parks. Parking will remain particularly limited on Saturday because an Amex Stadium football match is taking place at 3pm. Car park changes for drivers P1 Science car park will remain closed during Arrivals, while P4 Sussex House will also be closed on Saturday 19 September. P5 Sport Centre will have limited parking on Saturday, while P6 Ridge, P7 Jubilee and P7a Upper Arts will have very limited or limited availability throughout Arrivals Weekend. P3 Biology Road, P10 Falmer Sports Complex and P11 Knights Gate will remain open, with P11 identified as the primary staff parking location during the weekend. International students will also be arriving by coach throughout Thursday 17 September, although no parking impact is expected that day. The university is asking drivers to take extra care around coaches and pedestrians, particularly on the north side of campus from Boiler House Hill onwards. Public transport will also be affected, with bus services to residences suspended from 8am to 6pm throughout the three-day arrivals period. Several campus bus stops will be unavailable during this period, adding to the transport disruption expected as students move into their accommodation. Drivers heading to the University of Sussex between Friday and Sunday should therefore check the available parking arrangements before travelling and allow for increased activity around the campus.
