York Parking Restrictions Watered Down After Local Objections Parking restrictions planned for Church Lane in Dunnington, York, have been watered down after objections from local residents and the parish council. Under the revised proposals, drivers would be allowed to park for up to three hours, with no return for one hour, between 8am and 6pm from Monday to Friday. The plans are intended to manage parking demand while keeping spaces available for customers visiting businesses on Church Lane and providing overnight parking for local residents. The changes follow an earlier proposal for two-hour parking with no return within one hour, which would have applied all day and every day. The original plans were drawn up after concerns that commercial vehicles were occupying parking spaces and blocking access for residents and visitors to businesses on Church Street. Dunnington Parish Council called for less restrictive measures, arguing that a different approach would better manage demand for the available spaces. One local resident also objected, explaining that they had no off-street parking and were concerned that the restrictions could make it harder to find a space during busy periods. The revised proposal would allow longer stays during the daytime, giving customers more time to visit local businesses where appointments can last longer than two hours. At the same time, the proposed restrictions would still limit parking during weekday daytime hours, helping to manage the availability of spaces in the area. A City of York Council report said the revised arrangement was intended to balance parking for visitors to local businesses with the needs of residents who require overnight parking. The council's report said the changes followed objections to the earlier 24-hour restrictions and were intended to provide a more suitable balance. The proposals are now due to go before a City of York Council transport meeting on Tuesday, September 22, where a decision is expected. Until that decision is made, the revised restrictions remain proposals rather than confirmed parking rules. For drivers visiting Dunnington, the outcome of the meeting will determine whether the new three-hour weekday parking arrangement goes ahead on Church Lane.
