York Parking Suspensions Affect Roads and Car Parks Into October

York has several temporary parking suspensions in place or scheduled across roads and car parks in the city. The restrictions cover a range of reasons including events, construction, water mains works and telecoms works, with some continuing into October and November 2026.

York Drivers Warned About Temporary Parking Suspensions

York Parking Suspensions Affect Several Roads and Car Parks Drivers in York are being warned about a number of temporary parking suspensions affecting roads and car parks across the city. The restrictions are linked to events, construction work, water mains works and telecoms works, with some suspensions continuing into October and November 2026. Which York parking areas are affected? Bishopthorpe Road car park has a parking suspension running until Sunday 4 October because of Love Bishy Rd Bazaar events. The suspension at Esplanade car park is due to remain in place until Sunday 15 November for rowing and dragon boat racing events. On Burton Stone Lane, parking is suspended from 14 September until 25 September for vehicular access works. Drivers using Grosvenor Road in Clifton are also affected, with parking suspended from 7 September until 9 October because of water mains works. More parking suspensions coming into effect Further restrictions are scheduled for later in September. Duncombe Place will have parking suspended from Tuesday 29 September to Thursday 1 October for water mains works. Walmgate will also be affected between Monday 28 September and Friday 2 October, with the suspension linked to telecoms works. At Wolsley Street, parking will be suspended from Friday 25 September until Thursday 1 October for telecoms works. The council's current list also includes Driffield Terrace, where a parking suspension ran from 13 May until 20 September for construction works, and Poppleton Road, where a suspension for bus shelter works ran from 26 to 28 August. What should York drivers do? Temporary parking suspensions can mean that a space normally available to drivers cannot be used during the stated period. The York City Council information states that suspensions generally run from one minute after midnight on the start date until 11.59pm on the end date, unless specific times are provided. Drivers heading into affected areas should therefore check the suspension dates and times before parking, particularly where they regularly use a road or car park that has temporarily changed. The council also provides further information through the One.Network map, while notices at individual locations contain contact details for queries about a particular suspension. For drivers planning trips into York, checking parking arrangements before setting off can also help avoid arriving at a location where normal parking is temporarily unavailable. Services such as EveryonesParking can help drivers look for parking options in advance rather than relying on a space being available when they arrive. The current York list shows how parking availability can change temporarily because of roadworks, events and other local activity, making it important for drivers to check restrictions before parking.
